Nov 22 update
An An is ill. He is one of the five puppies rescued by the GAPI animal rescue team at the Wuhan Farmers Market. Two days ago, due to poor appetite he was sent to the Star Vet Hospital in Wuhan (it should be one of the best Vet hospitals in Wuhan). After some time of discussion and inspection, we currently have vet hospital partners in various parts of the country to provide professional, low-cost treatment. We are also very grateful to the vet hospitals for their support. As for some major intractable diseases, we usually consult Dr. Yang for advice.
After examination, the doctor found that An An had severe renal failure plus liver damage, and was also infected with leptospira bacteria. This bacterium was extremely contagious and would stay in the body for a long time. As a result, An An suffered from sepsis and had bleeding spots all over the body. The main reason for the illness was the long-term malnutrition caused by straying before being rescued, as well as the extremely poor living environment and living with other sick dogs at the same time. An An's situation was very pessimistic. We consulted vet experts in Wuhan, Beijing, and Shanghai. Several experts agreed that there was no need to rescue and suggested that An An should be euthanized. After discussing with Dr. Yang, the team leader decided to continue to treat An An. As long as there was a glimmer of hope, we still wanted to keep An An alive.
We remember that once there was a Satsuma in Wuhan that was paralyzed. Many doctors said that its spine was broken. Only Dr. Yang said that it was not broken. Finally, after an MRI examination, Dr. Yang was the only doctor who had the correct judgment. There was also a friend’s 2-year-old dog which was suddenly unable to walk on its lower limbs. The examination fee alone cost 3,000 RMB and the doctor said 30,000 RMB would probably not be enough to cure the symptom. But the dog was able to stand up after receiving two treatments from Dr. Yang.
Volunteers from the Wuhan base visited An An every day and kept in touch with us. An An had a very good personality. He was supposed to be a domestic pet dog before. Why was he almost brought to the dinner table? We had no way of knowing his tragic experience. For An An, we felt especially pity for him, as according to the doctor's estimation, he should be around 1-2 years old. There are different tragic stories behind every stray dog and there are too many dogs like An An. For others, they are only one of the tens of millions of stray dogs. But in the sense of life itself, they are also uniquely precious.
In order to prevent other dogs from being infected, the entire base was disinfected and each dog was vaccinated. In any case, we would try our best, and update An An's latest condition with you everyday.
Through An An’s story, we can know that if he were not rescued by us, An An would have ended up being a plate of dog meat brought to the table with viruses and bacteria. While the pandemic is still raging, there are unscrupulous dog dealers and restaurants continuing to engage in unreasonable businesses, and diners driven by their appetite eating sick or even poisoned dog meat without knowing it ( Through these years' rescue, we discovered a hidden secret. In fact, many dogs were shot to death with poison darts by dog traffickers. They are very toxic. Now more and more strange diseases appear. In fact, Dr. Yang often said that diseases was caused by certain food. The ancient people often said that vegetables and radishes keep you safe - which is right). In the Buddha Dharma, there is a saying that says: the cause of the past is reflected in the experiences of this life-which is the present An An; the future life depends on what is done in this life -which is the dog dealer who killed him, the owner of the dog meat shop and the diners... Because of ignorance, all sentient beings started an endless mode of mutual harm, harming others and being revenged for every lifetime, and then suffering from the result of bad deeds. However, how many of them would regret and repent, and how many would aspire to practice to escape from samsara? They are our mirrors...
Some things have to be done, and the purpose of doing them is to help others. In fact, helping others is also helping ourselves. Ultimately, the resentment between sentient beings are also due to "greed" of one self. We mutually harm each other due to greed, anger and hatred. When we encounter someone in need of help, we should try our best to help. Actually, we are "saving" people when we are helping dogs. What we ultimately save is ourselves.
